This wine comes from a special, single parcel project by Eulogio and Rebecca Pomares. The vineyards grew out of a single parcel planted by Rebecca’s grandmother in the 1940s. 30% of grapes are fermented whole cluster in large chestnut vats—an homage to classic winemaking practices of the region. The resulting wine is bright and juicy with complex flavors of rhubarb and fresh earth. The finish is of ripe red berries and crisp wet stone. This bottle can be left to age or enjoyed now with Manchego, mussels or Cornish hen.
Eulogio Pomares Espadeiro Castiñeiro
70 year old Espadeiro grapes are grown on granite soil and aged in used Burgundy casks, giving this silky, refined varietal the elegance of Pinot Noir. The fruit is high-toned and a beautiful garnet color in the glass. Juicy currant and pomegranate give way to violets and dried rose. Sea spray minerality and brine make a surprising entrance on the finish with just enough tannin to make your mouth water. Pair with light cheese such as brie, light meat game or root vegetables.
