Domaine de Valdition Cuvée de Filles 2018
Provence, France
100% Chasan
First of all, an orange wine from the land of all things classic (Provence) is already unexpected. Also, Chasan is a hybrid grape from the mid century made from a cross of Palomino and Chardonnay. It’s normally grown in Languedoc, if anywhere; it’s quite rare, even as a blending grape. This wine spends two days on skins and ages in concrete vats sur lie to preserve freshness and a silky texture. Dry and medium bodied with notes of peach and almond. Don’t judge this one by its label. It’s far from conventional.
