Château d’Oupia “Les Hérétiques” 2019

80% Carignan, 20% Grenache

Winemaker André Iché inherited a casual 13th century castle complete with old vines that he started bottling and selling under his own label in his sixties. The Carignan for this cuvée goes through carbonic maceration in tanks and then is combined with the Grenache in concrete. Medium bodied with flavors of dark fruit and a hint of spice, this wine pairs well with red meats and ratatouille. The name for this wine is a long story but essentially means “rebellious.”
