Folias de Baco Vinho Branco Curtido
100% Moscatel Galego
Young winemaker Tiago Sampaio brings his curiosity and love of learning to the Folias de Baco project. Tiago is an academically educated agriculturalist with a Phd in Viticulture and Enology from Oregon State University. Originally from the Douro, Tiago returned in 2007 to work vines in the sub region of Cima-Corgo. Vines for the Branco Curtido cuvée are 35 year old Moscatel Galego, an indigenous varietal of the Douro. The grape is high in sugar and, therefore, alcohol. The four month skin maceration balances this out to provide a fresh palate of lychee, citrus zest and tropical fruit like banana and papaya. Wine is fermented in cement tanks for three weeks and spends two months on lees with another six months in cement to age.
